Biosafety Research & Teaching Labs

Resources are available for researchers, instructors, and students who work with — or may be exposed to — potentially hazardous biological materials. These resources are designed to ensure that all work is conducted safely, responsibly, and in full regulatory compliance, protecting both the academic community and the broader public.

Covered Biological Materials

Biological materials subject to safety oversight include, but are not limited to:

  • Infectious agents (affecting humans, animals, or plants)
  • Biologically derived toxins
  • Recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules
  • Biological materials derived from humans
  • Animals or plants infected with biohazardous materials as described above

Our program supports safe laboratory practices, risk assessment, regulatory guidance, and training to promote a culture of biosafety and shared responsibility.  Together, these efforts promote a strong culture of biosafety, accountability, and shared responsibility across the research and teaching community.
